Luang Prabang Journals
Journals

Luang Prabang had a nice quaint feel to it. There is a lot of green because the whole city revolves around a large hill that takes up about 6 city blocks. There were a lot of cute cafe’s and restaurants and the whole place moved at the leisurely pace that we’ve come to expect from Laos cities.

There are some waterfalls that are outside of the city, great night markets with unique goods and affordable food, enough temples to keep history buffs occupied, and cheap accomodation.

You will pay a ton to do anything with any tour group so get ready to ride a mountain bike, on mountains, unless you have the $20 to rent a motorbike.

What We Learned

- The tuk-tuk drivers here are more agressive than elsewhere.

- Having a few beers along the Mekong can be pleasant. You might need some mossie spray.

- Check out the “per plate” vendor at the night market food stalls. Ridiculous value.

- JoMa cafe is here and it’s just as good as the one in Vientiane.

- Laos-Laos Garden Restaurant has a delicious “Laos Style BBQ” meal and great atmosphere. Nie Splurge! (I absolutely loved their “special” spicy sauce.)

- We thought the “sunset on the mountain” experience was a little overrated. You have to fight for a seat and battle mosquitos the whole time.
