Koh Lak was singled out in the Lonely Planet “Thailand” map so we thought it might be a hidden gem. Problem is, it was hid so well that almost nobody was there.

 

The beach was pleasant enough but there just wasn’t much going on. Part of that was probably because we were there during low season of a bad year for tourism (financial crisis). I think we should have read more into the diving side of it. We’re not divers.

 

Anyways, we needed a day to relax and it was definitely relaxing. Unless you are looking for an uber-chill place to wind down and stare at the water, I’d suggest  staying on the bus to Phuket.

 

BTW - Happy Lagoon is a great value. They have a friendly staff, clean rooms, a lot of flair, and a decent restaurant.
