Summary
Hong Kong was a pleasant surprise at the end of our adventure in China. I was expecting a grinding, cramped metropolis covered in pollution. I thought it’d be dirty, busy, and mad. But we found a clean, organized city that had a suprising amount of vegetation and charm. It wasn’t crawling with people. There weren’t cars streaming by, bumper to bumper, laying on their horns. The sidewalks weren’t all covered in neon lights and cigarette smoke. They were clean. The city planning allowed for adequately sized streets, and the traffic wasn’t bad. The pavement was fresh black and the buildings were impressive. The diversity in the faces walking past us was refreshing and so was the food. The town of Sai Kung on the Northeastern side of the New Territories seemed like a sweet place to live (albiet expensive) and it’s a possible candidate for our next home.
We have to thank our couchsurfers Siddharth, Dave, and Debbie for their hospitality and company. We had a great time staying with you and hope we can meet up again in the future.
