Tagbiliran

Alona Beach is a commercial beach compared to the other ones that we had visited. There were upscale hotels, awesome looking beachfront seafood restaurants, and tons of dive shops. Rachel found us some great nipa huts at Oops Bar ($18) that had private bathrooms, were away from the noise, and surrounded by a nice garden. Oops even had the forethought to provide free drinking water and 10% off any purchases from their bar and restaurant. We were impressed with the value compared to other options on this white sand beach.

We were able to enjoy some excellent snorkeling at Balacasag Island, eat some fantastic blue marlin steaks with sweet corn and potatoes while on this stretch of sand, and meet some great companions from Germany. This was a welcome influx of humanity after being in some really secluded spots. We even had to extend for an extra night because it was so fun.

What We Learned

- A trike ride from Tagbiliran takes around 40 minutes.

- Boat rides to Balacasag Island can be discounted if you work with the locals.

- Check different seafood BBQ’s for different prices and offerings.

- The nipa huts at Oops Bar are probably the best value/cost option around.
