Travelers seem to have a “Love / Hate” relationship with Boracay, the reigning champion of Filipino beach destinations. A lot of people we met along the way said, “Ohhh, there are too many people, too many bars, touts, and way too much noise .... Don’t bother.” Others said that they had a great time and we should “check it out.”

Rachel and I decided to see for ourselves and after 5 days of intense study, the verdict

is:

“It’s Good ... Very Good.”

Yeah, there were a lot of great people, conversations, delicious (affordable) buffets in the evening, dips in the ocean, cups of coffee, and bottles of beer. After being in secluded places for awhile, it was nice for us to hang out in Boracay.

What We Learned

- Wait until the evening to eat because the buffets are cheap and good.

- Go to the fringes of the beach for the best deals. Negotiate for bargain lodging.

- Happy Hour has a lot of bars and cafes selling beer for the same price as “sari-sari’s” (convenient stores).

- The Mexican restuarant in the Lonely Planet is overrated. Your money is better spent somewhere else.

- Go to the Filipino market for amazing deals on prawns and fish. Cook it yourself.
