Puerto Princessa is the capital of Palawan and much busier than we expected it to be. Rachel and I were exhausted after all of the outdoor activity we’d been through in El Nido and Coron, so we just enjoyed the creature comforts a bigger “town” can provide.

Most people base themselves out of Puerto Princessa so they can visit the Subterranean River that is two hours north next to the city of Sabang. We intended to visit these caves but decided against it due to price ($30 each), tiredness, and the lack of enthusiastic reviews from fellow travelers. We hate to miss things but, since then, three seperate travelers have told us, “You didn’t miss anything.”

What We Learned

- As you can see, the road from El Nido to Puerto Princessa is in bad shape. Prepare for a 9 hour + ride, worse if it’s raining.

- There is a nice cafe called “Fresh” that serves up decent mexican.

- The blind masseuses at the airport have hands like vice-grips and the price is right.
